Pay Scale: $23.33 - $33.57
Shift: Monday - Friday 6am - 11:30pm Schedule May Vary
Under the direction of the Histology Supervisor, the Histology Technician is responsible for all phases of tissue and fluid processing, including specimen receipt, preparation, staining and reporting.
Prepares and stains tissue and body fluids for microscopic evaluation, including routine and special stains.
Performs gross examination of limited tissue specimens (if qualified under CIAA 88 guidelines). Training, supervision and proficiency testing will be provided by the pathologists.
Performs clerical work associated with the acquisition and reporting of tissue specimens and body fluids using Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Demonstrates responsibility for storage and disposal of tissues, slides, reports, etc.
Prepares and maintains reagents, stains and solutions for department, including mixing of reagents and chemicals as needed.
Performs frozen sections for the pathologists using cryostat.
Inventories all reagents and supplies for pathology department, and orders as needed, under the direction of the Histology Supervisor.
- High school diploma or GED required.
Two (2) years of experience as a Histology Technician including working knowledge of preparing and staining tissues/body fluids for microscopic evaluation preferred.
Must be able to work independently and organize daily workload without supervision.
Must be able to perform tasks requiring a high degree of manual dexterity.
- HT/HTL certification by a nationally recognized agency preferred.
