Responsibilities

Medical Assistant responsibilities include providing a basic level of patient care and treatment. Assists

with obtaining vital signs, documents chief complaint, obtains patient history, and provides assistance to

physicians, residents and/or licensed nursing personnel. Alerts physician of

problems/concerns/abnormalities.

Surgical Procedure Coordinator responsibilities include coordinating the schedules of physicians,

operating rooms, anesthesiologists, equipment, lab work, and any other required items/staff in

accordance with a physician's recommendation for patient care.

Responsibiities:

  • Maintains hospital standards of zero tolerance for mislabeled specimens and collects laboratory specimens according to hospital protocol.

  • Assists the nurse/physician during examinations, treatments and procedures as requested.

  • Retrieves necessary equipment and supplies.

  • Performs follow-up actions as directed.

  • Documents clinically relevant findings in the patient's record according to hospital protocols and clinical protocols.

  • Completes hospital forms per protocol.

  • Monitors and records patient vital signs, weight, positioning, ADL's I&O activity and blood glucose readings per RN instructions, hospital protocols, and standards of care.

  • Coordinate operating rooms, equipment, anesthesia, pre-op labs and imaging, authorizations, and physician schedule for surgeries.

  • Act as a liaison between the patient, provider/referring physician, primary care physician, and other parties involved in the surgery/procedure to include distribution of pre and post-operative information to the patient.

  • Gather and record financial and insurance information and ensure authorizations are obtained prior to the procedure/surgery.

Qualifications

MINIMUM

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or completion of an U.S. Armed Forces medical services training program.

  • Candidates who completed a program prior to February 2, 2000 can satisfy the minimum education requirements by providing evidence of direct supervision by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours to satisfy the minimum education requirements.

  • As related to Medical Assistant, demonstrated experience with computer program utilized for checking-in and scheduling patients.

  • As related to Surgery Procedure Coordinator, three years related Surgery Procedure Coordinator experience required.

  • Familiarity with operating room scheduling processes critical; ability to effectively interact with insurance carriers is also required.

  • Gather and record financial and insurance information and ensure authorizations are obtained prior to the procedure/surgery.

  • Basic Computer skills, Outlook, window based programs.

  • American Heart Association BLS

PREFERRED

  • Previous MA experience highly preferred

  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience

  • Previous experience in designated specialty

  • Bi-lingual

  • Previous office experience

  • Medical Assistant Certificate

Medical Assistant Certificate preferred.

Licensure

Pay Range

$20.71 - $28.48 /hour
