Responsibilities

St. Josephs Hospital and Medical Center and the Barrow Neurological Institute® (BNI) have consistently been recognized for clinical and research excellence in an academic medical center setting and for the high quality of patient and employee experiences in the organizations. Laboratory-based research and patient-oriented clinical studies have international stature and often involve extensive collaborations with academic and industry partners regionally nationally and globally. There are educational experiences at secondary school undergraduate graduate and post-graduate levels. Administrative functions ensure that there is safe ethical and responsible conduct of research and facilitate research management and interfaces with other units in the Hospital and Institute. The Department of Translational Neurosciences at the Barrow Neurological Institute is currently seeking a Research Technician II.

This position is specifically catered to those candidates with strong experience in molecular biology (DNA RNA and protein work). Cell culture aseptic technique highly desired and viral vector biology and production experience highly desired but not required. Skills needed include data generation careful record keeping writing up laboratory procedures and conducting basic experiments to test new hypotheses. The candidate is also expected to assist in creating reports for grant proposals and presentations/publications. As well as to participate in general duties of lab operations such as inventory keeping and preparation of stock reagents/glassware. Active participation in lab meetings journal clubs and other lab events is required.

Desired Skills:

  • Maintain written records of research effort.

  • Prepare data for results analyses.

  • Perform molecular biology techniques including RNA quantification PCR protein and nucleic acid separation and purification as well as nucleic acids:protein interaction assays.

  • Perform nucleic acid bacterial cloning techniques including ligations transformations and transfections.

  • Familiarity with viral vectors is a plus.

  • Subcellular fractionation and organelle analysis.

  • Perform biochemical extractions enzyme assays antibody use and immunocytochemistry.

  • Assist in preparing reports.

Qualifications

Minimum:

Two (2) years prior experience in a research clinical or other scientific environment required.

Bachelor’s degree required

Familiar with laboratory techniques. Working knowledge of the scientific method.

Preferred:

Four (4) years of prior experience in a research clinical or other scientific environment preferred.

MS Degree preferred.

Pay Range

$19.73 - $27.13 /hour
