Overview
As an ICU Nurse at CHI Saint Joseph Health, you’ll monitor patients who are critically ill and unstable following extensive injury, surgery, or life-threatening disease. You’ll never have the same day twice as your patients’ needs evolve but you'll always begin each shift by taking report from a nursing teammate before making your rounds. You’ll provide continued care and perform procedures as detailed in the care plan.
To thrive in this role, you’ll heavily depend on your ability to multitask and react. You’ll clinically care for your patients- remaining focused and attentive as you continuously monitor your patients throughout your shift. You also serve as their advocate- supporting their best interests when they cannot. Your sound judgment during an emergency and rapid response are impressive, putting you on the radar for advancement.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Assess, plan and implement compassionate nursing care while ensuring patient comfort
Anticipate, identify, and respond to informational and emotional needs of patients and families
Guide and direct healthcare personnel (i.e., Patient Care Technicians) in caring for patients
Maintain knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices)
Utilize safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms
Initiate emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury)
Assist with patient care duties (i.e., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, and hygiene)

Responsibilities
Provides nursing care according to the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementing and evaluating. Implements appropriate nursing care interventions. Administers medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and established nursing policies and procedures. Care provided is based on defined standards of patient care and nursing evidence-based practice.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
Assumes responsibility for acquiring knowledge and skills necessary for patient care in the identified practice setting.
Performs assessment and analyzes patient problems and conditions using critical decision making to determine need for standard, urgent or emergent interventions.
Implements and/or modifies plan of care using assessment data, standards of care and evidence based practice inclusive of nursing care coordination, appropriate patient and family education, and discharge planning. Facilitates interdisciplinary partnership in patient care.
Integrates ethical provisions in nursing practice and delivers care in a manner that preserves and protects patient autonomy, dignity and rights.
Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures.
Evaluates progress towards attainment of desired patient outcomes.
Demonstrates effective on-going observations and reassessment of patient/family and their response to the interventions and changes in condition.
Documents assessments and interventions in accordance with hospital policy and standards of care.
Utilizes resources appropriately and follows facility guidelines for documentation and charging of medical supplies and equipment.
Assigns or delegates tasks to designated support personnel based on needs and conditions of the patient, complexity of the task, predictability of the outcome and facility policy.
Collaborates with new employees and peers to support orientation, training and development opportunities. Supports the profession of nursing through support for nursing student clinical activities, as appropriate.
Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) from an accredited school of nursing.
Required Licensure and Certifications
Current RN license in the State of Kentucky
Basic Life Support (BLS) via the American Heart Association (AHA)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) via the American Heart Association (AHA) within 3 months of hire
PREFERRED Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
Previous nursing experience in Telemetry, Cardiac, Emergency or Critical Care service lines
Pay Range
$30.00 - $43.50 /hour
