Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

The System Director, Academic Operations serves as a dyad operational partner in the Physician Enterprise Academic and Faculty Affairs unit. Under the direction of the System SVP, Academic and Faculty Affairs/Chief Academic Officer, Physician Enterprise, the individual in this role will be responsible for the implementation of operational systems, processes and programs traversing the scope of key academic and faculty affairs key functions, including system academic accreditation and compliance, academic program outcomes, academic policies and procedures, clinical standards, research, faculty development and continuous quality improvement. The System Director, Academic Operations will also serve as a key liaison with CommonSpirit Health academic partners and educational programs and will facilitate management of these key relationships. This role collaborates with multiple business partners both within and outside of the Physician Enterprise and will serve an integral role in advancing CommonSpirit Health as a leading learning health system.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Operationalize systems, processes and programs traversing the scope of key academic and faculty affairs functions, including system academic accreditation and compliance, academic program outcomes, academic policies procedures, academic philanthropy, clinical standards, research and academic grant management, faculty development and continuous quality improvement

  • Collaborate with academic partners and programs, educational program leaders and other enterprise stakeholders and business partners to execute an aligned strategy for academics across CommonSpirit

  • Create and manage central data systems/dashboards and systems for academics in collaboration with IT and other respective business partners

  • Function as a key business partner for collaborative initiatives with external units for which academic medicine expertise is needed

  • Establish and monitor processes for integration of non-standard trainees and faculty in CommonSpirit clinical and educational environments

  • Develop relationships with national, regional and local leaders to advance work of the unit and facilitates collaboration among key stakeholders and business partners

  • Engage and collaborate with Physician Enterprise Provider Recruitment/Talent Acquisition units to facilitate effective provider recruitment and retention strategies and initiatives

  • Prepare reports, data analysis, graphic visualization and slide presentations across various areas of academic and faculty affairs, for different stakeholders and audiences

  • Summarize findings, write executive reports and develop presentations for executive and other groups

  • Analyze and apply data to drive improvement and operational effectiveness

  • Collaborate with a dynamic and agile team to achieve unit goals

  • Seek and leverage opportunities to acquire additional subject matter expertise in related domains of academic medicine

  • Represent Academic and Faculty Affairs unit at the designation of the System SVP, Academic and Faculty Affairs/Chief Academic Officer

  • Execute additional duties, special projects and engagements as assigned by Academic and Faculty Affairs leadership

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Required Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in related discipline (Master’s of Science in Healthcare Administration preferred)

  • Minimum 5 to 7 years experience in the discipline, including 3-5 years leadership experience in academic health organization

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

  • Must have direct operational experience in a large, complex academic medical organization and/or health system in academic and/or faculty affairs; experience in medical education preferred

  • Operational experience with proven ability to develop, lead and implement programs to execution in complex academic medical environment, including finance and health system experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work with senior executives and leaders to advance strategic goals and priorities across units and to advance organizational mission

  • Expert collaborator with ability to function with diplomacy and excellence in a complex, matrixed health system

  • Ability to consider, integrate and apply data to drive evidence-driven solutions aligned with both local and enterprise goals

Pay Range

$65.63 - $95.17 /hour
