Responsibilities

The Senior Paralegal works under the supervision and direction of one or more CommonSpirit Health attorneys to provide high level paralegal support in one or more assigned functional areas of the Legal Team (e.g., Operations, Real Estate, Labor and Employment, Compliance, Managed Care, E-Discovery, Transactions, etc.). The Senior Paralegal may support one or more System office functions and Divisions, as assigned.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

● Prepare varied and complex legal documents, such as physician and non-physician agreements (at the paralegal skill level), utilizing templates and standard provisions approved by Legal Team leadership. In addition to agreements, documents may include, but are not limited to, corporate documents, forms, government filings, and legal memoranda.

● Maintain legal files in electronic filing system, as instructed, and ensure proper indexing and filing of legal documents.

● Effectively conduct legal research and analysis of applicable laws using various resources, including electronic databases and research tools.

● Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with other Legal Team members and with clients.

● Complete and assist with completion of forms and government filings using sensitive and confidential information.

● Use good judgment in interactions with clients, knowing when it is appropriate to escalate issues or concerns to the supervising attorney.

● Identify opportunities to improve Legal Team processes and significantly contribute to such improvements, including by drafting and updating contract templates, enhancing record maintenance and sharing, and actively supporting Legal Team and organizational initiatives.

● Demonstrate ability to work in fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and meeting ongoing deadlines.

● Take on responsibilities above and beyond assigned duties, in furtherance of the Legal Team’s work and teambuilding efforts (e.g., volunteer to give reflections at Legal Team meetings, contribute to periodic paralegal calls, participate on workgroups, etc.), and in accordance with CommonSpirit’s mission, vision, and values.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

● Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study, paralegal certificate, and four (4) years’ relevant work experience; or

● Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study and six (6) years’ relevant work experience; or

● Associate degree in paralegal studies or related field, paralegal certificate, and six (6) years’ relevant work experience; or

● Associate degree in paralegal studies or related field and eight (8) years’ relevant work experience; or

● Paralegal certificate and eight (8) years’ relevant work experience.

Required Licensure and Certifications

●Paralegal certificate preferred but not required.

Skills, Abilities and Training

● While working under the supervision of an attorney, possesses the knowledge, composure, diplomacy, and capability to perform essential job responsibilities with minimal direction.

● Proactively seeks professional growth opportunities and continually stretches skill set to take on more challenging assignments within paralegal role.

● Proficiency or ability to become proficient using technology tools adopted by CommonSpirit Health and the Legal Team, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office tools, Google Suite, Westlaw, Lexis, etc.

● Strong oral and written communication skills.

● Legal knowledge appropriate for the specialty for which the paralegal is assigned, e.g. healthcare regulation and operations, labor and employment law, real estate law, e-discovery, etc.

● Analytic skills and ability to identify key legal issues and ability to proactively communicate such legal issues to supervising attorney.

● Demonstrates a commitment to service, organizational values, and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor at all times, acting with discretion, maintaining the confidentiality of privileged or protected information, and supporting positive relationships with other teams/departments.

Pay Range

$33.68 - $48.84 /hour
