Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

This position contributes to the mission and vision of CHI Health by augmenting nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department, and in other areas of the hospital when assigned.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Functions within the scope of practice of a Paramedic as defined within Nebraska and Iowa state regulations and listed in the Approved Skills and Procedures for Licensed EMS Providers document. This position does take a patient assignment, but must be over seen by an RN.

  2. Provides patient care and performs patient care procedures as listed on the attached Approved Skills and Procedures for Licensed EMS Providers .

  3. Responds to Code 99 and trauma activations in the ED and, when requested, on the hospital campus.

  4. Provides patient transportation within the Emergency Department and on the hospital campus as requested.

  5. Enters patient orders into the hospital computer system when directed.

  6. Assists with obtaining patient demographic and billing information.

  7. Maintains strict patient confidentiality.

  8. Maintains professional and positive attitude at all times to staff and patients.

  9. Follows policies and procedures of CHI Health.

  10. Maintains a customer-service, patient-focused environment.

  11. Advises ED Medical Director and OD-ED regarding any practice issues or patient care concerns.

  12. Attends staff meetings, in-services, and other departmental meetings as requested.

  13. Maintains compliance with licensure and certification requirements.

  14. Provides evidence of on-going continuing education activities.

  15. Other duties as assigned by leader and organization within the scope of practice of the paramedic.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

● Preferred: Previous clinical experience in an Emergency Department or hospital setting is desirable.

Required Licensure and Certifications

● Required: Must have a valid certificate to function as an EMT-P (EMT-Paramedic) in the state of Nebraska or Iowa.

● BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing through the American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

● ACLS or ACLS instructor certification is required within 6 months Acceptable credentialing through the American Heart Association: Advanced Cardiac Life Support

● PALS (Pediatric Cardiac Life Support) or PALS instructor certification required within 6 months. Acceptable credentialing through the American Heart Association: Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

● Must have and maintain active membership on a Rescue Service in the state of Nebraska. This is not required for Iowa.

● Preferred: Successful completion of a Critical Care Paramedic Training course

Pay Range

$21.23 - $29.99/hour
